– a French Chanson – a hit of the seventies in Europe. The French vocalist Joe Dassin tells the story of the most famous street in Paris of the 70s, which still has the same flair from the days of old. This song was originally published as "Oh Waterloo Road."
Arranger Martin Gerhman, inspired by the original, has created a modern arrangement for saxophone quintet SAATB at mid-level difficulty. The accompaniment is kept relatively simple in order to leave space for the melody to unfold. Keep in mind the transition from the eighth note triplets and swinging eighth notes, which should not be played in an uptight manner. In order to make the entire work a bit more interesting there is a notated chorus in part D and E.
In D all voices interact in the 4 part choral section. E begins with the baritone saxophone and is then supported by the tenor with a second voice above after half of the passage. In the following tutti section (F) the refrain is heard for a last time.
This arrangement allows for much variety and should therefore be a part of a well-balanced repertoire for every ensemble.
