This arrangement was first written in a full big band version for a performance of the Roy Frank Orchestra at a ball. It has now been modified for five saxophones. It is well suited as a show song at a concert, in which the saxophonists can impress the audience with their quick eighth note runs.
The main theme is first presented by the upper voices in a four voiced orchestration over the latin bass line of the baritone. In the middle section at B softer duettes exchange with the tutti voices. In part C the theme appears again in a five voiced homophone orchestration in a mystical soft piano. In part D the upper voices take over with unisono eighth runs. These are repeated in a similar (yet not exactly the same!) form in part E in saxes 4 and 5. The upper voices play short dominate interjections here. After a short transition with a four measured "bell" at F a shout chorus commences, which first begins as tutti bevore the middle voices take over with a Mexican style. Finally the piece closes with the middle part and A theme.
This arrangement is certainly not easy and experienced players can even increase the tempo. Attention should be paid to playing all quick eighth phrases in a masterful and reliable way so that the performance does not sound rushed. This piece will certainly ensure a good mood for all.
