Bernd Frank arrnaged this jazz standard from Horace Silver for saxophone quintet in 2003. Therefore we are particularly excited about the publication of this 'new' arrangement.

Much takes place between the intro and outro, which are both dominated by the riff in the tenor saxophones. The theme is presented in section A by the second alto saxophone; when it is repeated, New Orleans style embellishments are added by the first alto. In section B a homophonic shout chorus in the upper four voices are heard above the walking line of the baritone. The first major part of the arrangement is the tutti section in D, in which a five voiced passage in block style interchanged with wild improvisations by all voices at the same time. This should sound as if all voices come together again after this collective improvisation as if by magic. The second major part of the arrangement is the long improvised solo of the alto saxophone after G, when it can really take off. Following the transition in J, which is similar to the intro, the theme is played unisono in K; the section L is is played more dignified and finally in section M a new theme appears in a somewhat moderate duet style.

This arrangement is a real highlight in our publications. All performers can show off here what they are capable of. It appeals to both perfomers and the audience. The entire work moves stylistically between New Orleans and Swing.  The ..... parts can certainly sound almost like a big band.
