The Berlin saxophonist Gottfried Klier pmce arranged the famous Christmas carol "Silent Night" by F.X Gruber for a studio reggae band with a singer and wind instruments. He then arranged the 3/4 time of this "original" for his students as a saxophone quartet in 4/4 time.
The eighth notes in this version should be played as triplets. The tempo should not be too slow. The accompaniment has its main beats on 2 and 4. In the accompaniment of the solo as of measure 47 the 1st beat is even ommited, which is quite typical for reggae bass lines. This accompaniment should first be rehearsed with out the soloists. The solo part should only be played a maximum of 4 times. The basis are a few chords, which could be complemented if necessary also by the scales for the improvised solo. The following scales result from the four measures of solos:
measure 47: F major
measure 48: Bb major (= Eb mixolydian #11)
measure 49: Bb major
measure 50: F major (= C mixolydian)
F major and Bb major are only different in one note "E" or "Eb". This means that the tonal material remeains the same the entire time with the exception of this one note. One could use for example the pentatonic scale from F (f,g,a,c,d).
The transition to the coda contains a meter change to 3/4 time, where by the values of the quarter notes remain the same.
