Saxophone Quartet by Jon Welch (AATB or ATTB)
You never knew 7/8 time could swing so much! This latin composition switches back and forth between 7/8 and 4/4 time during the head and the interludes are built around funky licks in the baritone sax. The section sound is full despite the odd meter and the bari has a big, challenging feature when the interlude material is developed before the final chorus. The melodies are fairly distributed among the four players throughout and 7/8 can really swing! Grade: 3+ (4:29).
