5 Sax, 3 Tp, 3 Tb, Piano, Bass, Drums + opt. (Piccolo-) Flute
Key: A minor
1st trumpet: b2
1st trombone: a1 (opt. c2)
This arrangement was originally written for a performance of the Roy Frank Orchestra at a ball. Yet it is also very suitable as a show song at a concert as particularly the saxophones impress with their quick eighth runs.
The theme is first presented in section A by the saxophones in a compact five-part orchestration. In the middle section at B soft piano passages exchange with tutti passages. In section C the theme is once again in the piano. The arrangement has been conceived so that these piano passages could be doubled by a piccolo flute (or alternatively by a normal flute) or also played as a solo. This section could also be played by the entire saxophone section, if necessary doubled with the flute. In section D the saxophones take over with their unisono eigth note passages. These are then repeated in a similar (yet not exactly the same!) form in section C, when the brass may dominate with their interjections.
A tutti section, which is dominated by the brass, follows after a short drum solo in section F. After another eight measures of drum solo the arrangement conculdes with a middle section and the theme from section A.
This arrangement is certainly not easy and experienced players can even increase the tempo. Attention should be paid to playing all quick eighth phrases in a masterful and reliable way so that the performance does not sound rushed. This piece will certainly ensure a good mood for all.
