Many years ago there was a game for ATARI computers with which one with a (then quite simple) horizontally movable spaceship had to shoot at various objects which would otherwise would destroyed one on impact.

The additction to this game can be thanked for this piece, as the melody which can be heard in the background of this game is the main theme of this arrangement.
